P2000i High-Altitude Carburetor Jet Installation

Required Tools and Supplies

  • 8mm Socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Flat-Head Screwdriver
  • Shop Rags
  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Safety Glasses

Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris generator. To install the high-altitude carburetor jet on your P2000i generator, follow these steps. Using the wrong carburetor main jet may cause poor engine performance. If too lean of a jet is used, severe engine damage may result. Refer to the Owner’s Manual to see which jet should be installed at your elevation.

1. Ensure the generator is on a flat, level surface, in a well-ventilated area.

2. Turn the fuel valve switch to the OFF position.

3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the two maintenance cover fasteners, pivot the cover out and remove the cover.

4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the carburetor drain screw and drain the fuel into a suitable container.

5. Tighten the drain screw once the fuel is drained. Clean up any fluid spills.

6. Route the fuel hoses away from the airbox, and clean the area around the airbox thoroughly.

7. With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw from the front of the airbox and remove the cover.

8. Remove the air filter.

9. Remove the bolt on the inside of the airbox with an 8mm socket.

10. Remove the bolt on the exterior of the airbox that holds it to the engine.

11. Disconnect the crankcase vent hose from the airbox duct.

12. With a 10mm socket, remove the two nuts securing the air duct to the carburetor.

13. Pull the airbox hose off the posts, and remove the airbox.

14. Using a 10mm socket, remove the float bowl chamber bolt and remove the bowl.

15. Remove the main jet from the carburetor with a flat-head screwdriver.

16. Install the correct main jet for the altitude in which the generator is operating. Do not over-tighten the jet.

17. Inspect the float chamber O-ring for any damage or wear, and replace if necessary.

18. Align the float chamber O-ring and reinstall the float chamber. Torque the bolt to 13.3 to 16.2 ft-lbs (18 to 22 Nm).

19. Reinstall the airbox duct onto the posts. Torque the nuts to 6 to 7.4 ft-lbs (8 to 10 Nm).

20. Reconnect the crankcase hose to the airbox hose.

21. Reinstall the bolt on the side of the airbox. Torque to 6 to 7.4 ft-lbs (8 to 10 Nm).

22. Continue by reinstalling the bolt inside of the airbox. Torque to 6 to 7.4 ft-lbs (8 to 10 Nm).

23. Reinstall the air filter, and ensure it is fully seated.

24. Reinstall the airbox cover, ensuring a proper fit. Torque the fastener to 6 to 7.4 ft-lbs (8 to 10 Nm).

25. Reposition the fuel hoses into their retention holes at the bottom of the generator.

26. Finish by reinstalling the maintenance cover by aligning the lower retention tabs and pivoting in to align the mounting holes. Then torque the fasteners until fully seated.

27. Turn on the fuel supply and start the generator per the Owner’s Manual guidelines. While the generator is running, inspect for any air or fuel leaks, allowing the generator to run for 1 to 2 minutes. Always operate the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area.

28. Turn off the generator, per the Owner’s Manual guidelines.
